The Opening Ceremonies of the 2023 Arctic Winter Games kick off January 29 at 7:00 p.m. with a preshow beginning at 6:30 p.m. Visit awg2023.org/tickets to get your hands on this winter’s must-have ticket.
The Arctic Winter Games is an international biennial celebration of circumpolar sports and culture taking place in the Wood Buffalo region from January 29 – February 4, 2023.
The Games will highlight the region and its culture through the spirit of sport to an international audience and visitors from around the world. The week-long event will see participants from our own backyard along with international circumpolar North regions during their Time to Shine.
Athletes will compete in 21 sports in four categories: Traditional sports, Nordic sports, indoor sports and ice sports.
The Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games includes athletes from the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, Alaska, Greenland, Nunavik (Northern Quebec), Northern Alberta and the Indigenous people (Sami) of Norway, Sweden and Finland.
